  • We’ve purchased lots from Banko Gotiti for several years and it is consistently a highlight of our offering, something that we truly look forward to with delight every year. Ethiopia is revered by many people in speciality coffee and for good reason, the complex acidity mingling with intricate florals and delicate textures is often credited as the “first cup” for many speciality lovers. Every lot from Banko Gotiti that we purchase brings us back to this feeling of why we love coffee and how something so simple executed with care and precision can truly be a thing of beauty. We’re thrilled to share this coffee with our customers once again.

Banko Gotiti is the name of a coffee washing station located in Gedeb, within the Yirgacheffe district and SNPR region of Ethiopia. Over several years this region has developed a distinguished reputation for high quality coffee and produces some of the most sought after micro-lots in the world. The combination of high altitude, fertile soil, plentiful rainfall and an abundance of local knowledge all contribute to the high status of Yirgacheffe coffees. The washing station works to support local small-holders and provide high-quality processing for local coffees. Most of the cherry that arrives at this station is forest tended, which means producers prune and harvest coffee plants growing wild in nearby forested areas. Other small-holders tend coffee plants in gardens near their homes, yielding small amounts of cherry which they transport to the station. Without communal washing stations like Banko Gotiti to aggregate the cherry, many of these small holders would be unable to connect with the speciality market.
