The Karinga Factory is in the Thika Distract of Kiambu County, interestingly this is a region traditionally known for tea. It is part of the Gitwe Farmers Co-op which currently has about 500 members and receives cherries from smallholder farmers in the villages of Kimaruri, Kariungu, Gachuha and Mugalwa. The factory is run by Samwel Muteti with six members of staff. Water for wet processing the cherries is pumped from the River Rwabura and due to rising awareness of the need to conserve the environment, five waste water soak pits allow the water to seep back into the soil after processing.
