IN THE CUP: Fruit Compote, Grapefruit & Demerara Sugar

Origin: Nyamasheke, Rwanda | Producer: Rugali, Kilimbi & Gisheke washing stations | Variety: Red Bourbon |   Process: Honey | Altitude: 1600 - 1650 MASL | Harvest: 2023

Gito represents something a little different for us here at Fortitude. The first of a couple of coffees we have lined up this year which are technically not “speciality” grade coffees. Gito means “tiny” in Kinyarwanda, the official language of Rwanda. The screen size of these beans, 13-14, would normally be considered inferior to beans of a larger screen size and would be sold to the commodity market. Raw Material, the brilliant importer we sourced this coffee through, decided to try these coffees before they were sold on and found then to be delicious. This approach allows to producers to increase their volumes of coffees sold to the speciality market and as such increase their profits as more value is added into the supply chain.

This is a honey process lot of screen size 13-14 beans from three washing stations in the Nyamasheke region of Rwanda - Rugali, Kilimbi and Gisheke. It gives a wonderfully fruity cup, like a sweet compote, with a pleasant grapefruit like acidity and sugary Demerara finish.

*Our coffee is freshly roasted each week and orders are dispatched on Wednesday and Friday for orders received by 12pm the day before.
